WOMEN’S HEALTH

Dr. Gansner has focused her practice on the many and varied health concerns of women including concerns related to menstruation, PCOS, fertility and menopause. As women take on more roles in their lives (career woman, breadwinner, wife, mother, caregiver), they often have less time to take care of their own health. She will assess the root causes underlying a woman’s health concerns by combining a detailed medical history with up-to-date lab testing.

Women’s health is complex and therefore each patient needs an equally detailed assessment. Dr. Gansner’s approach to women’s health is comprehensive, so she looks to identify and treat the foundations that create regular healthy menstrual cycles, optimize fertility and allow for healthy pregnancies, and health throughout menopause.

MENSTRUAL PAIN

Intense menstrual pain (cramping) comes from high inflammation in the body and is generally not as much about hormonal health. With the right lab testing and a detailed history we can find the source of the inflammation, and rule out if there is a hormonal problem. Intense cramping can often be lessened with focused diet and lifestyle changes, and natural supplements.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS):

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is often thought of as having a low or irritable mood associated with hormonal changes. However, women may experience many other symptoms in addition to mood changes, such as low energy, cramps, bloating, headaches, acne, food cravings, and feeling cold.  It is important to assess hormone levels with specific lab testing and make sure the problem is not associated with a different health issue (i.e. thyroid problem). After a detailed medical history and lab testing is complete, we have a variety of natural treatment options including acupuncture, herbal products, and nutritional supplements that can help manage PMS symptoms.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS):

This condition is actually less about cysts on the ovaries and is more about high testosterone and blood sugar imbalances.  Most women with PCOS go months without a menstrual cycle, exhibit weight gain, and facial hair growth. By focusing on both blood sugar and testosterone balance, we can normally get a patient back to having a regular cycle naturally.

Irregular Menstrual Cycles:

When the timing of the menstrual cycle is irregular there is generally an imbalance in hormones, such as testosterone being too high or progesterone being too low.  Our stress hormones can also affect the production of menstrual hormones that regulate the cycle, so we will need to check all hormone levels. Therefore, it is important to have the right lab testing done and identify the root cause of the condition.  Once the cause is determined, we can use lifestyle and supplements to help heal the body and balance a patient’s hormones.

MENOPAUSE

The natural change in hormones can be a hard time for many women, but there are some great natural products to help support the body during the hormonal changes.  Dr. Gansner tailors her plan to address the specific concern, rather simply adopting a one size fits all plan.

Going through menopause doesn’t have to be a battle, make an appointment to learn how to effectively manage the symptoms and get back to doing the things you love.

Dr. Gansner can also provide tailored treatment plans for female patients suffering from recurrent yeast infection and/or bladder infections, menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding), endometriosis and osteoporosis to optimize women’s health.
